MIK-BIS SQL-Connector
Comparison between OLAP Structure Data and Relational Data
A management information system is used to analyze data and operates in a multidimensional manner. Data acquisition however generally takes place in relational databases.However, what happens if the work requires details which cannot be inferred from the analyses alone and access to the originals is required in short order and in an uncomplicated manner? Using the SQL connector it is now possible to employ MIK -OLAP based applications to analyze the associated data from a relational backend system (for example, an SQL database).The user can intuitively use the SQL connector’s assistant to determine and easily trace the connection between OLAP and the relational database. End users require no SQL experiencein order to call up the SQL data. The only prerequisites for using the system include:
- A relational database;
- MIK-BIS Smart Client;
- MIK-BIS Graphics-Port, Table or Presentation.
First, the link between MIK-BIS and the relational database is defi ned. This takes place in the so-called »SQL View« in the MIK-BIS topic area. When setting up this connection an assistant with easily understandable instructions takes the user to the desired result. After this, so-called »SQL queries« which also lie in the MIK-BIS topics area can be defi ned. Here again, the assistant offers help. In a query the user can defi ne which contents the results list should indicate. If, for example, a graphic requiring answers from the original level is opened, the predefi ned SQL query is activated. The result is a list of the originals which make up the graph. The number of database links and the number of queries are both unlimited.
