20 Years of Success with Business Intelligence and the Story Continues
MIK AG celebrates its birthday by offering the most modern software available

Since the Gartner Group first coined the term “Business Intelligence“ in the beginning of the nineties, it has been used to describe IT-supported access to information, as well as IT-supported analysis and preparation of information aimed at supporting business-related decision-making. Essentially, the Gartner Group only gave a name to a phenomenon that decision-makers in companies had known for much longer.

Back in 1986, the Chairman of MIK, Michael Moritz, realized that data was the source of urgently needed information; however it often resembled a treasure chest that had not yet been found. Based on the insight that the future would belong to those companies in which managers and decision-makers would no longer make decisions based on instinct or assumptions, but rather on the basis of timely information on performance-related indicators inside their company, MIK was rightfully founded in Reichenau.

Making fast, yet correct, decisions represents a key success factor, particularly in markets in which the demands continue to increase more and more rapidly. The business intelligence solutions from MIK filter out the performance-related data from the huge volumes of corporate information and, thus, create greater transparency with respect to information. Chances and risks become much more visible. Click here to learn more about MIK.

New MIK-customers:

Kodi Diskontläden GmbH
To enable the continued growth of the company and meet the increasing demands being placed on the Controlling department, Kodi Diskontläden GmbH in Oberhausen, a company devoted to household goods with 113 branches and 800 employees, decided to develop a management information system based on an OLAP database. They opted to go with a solution for sales controlling based on MIK-BIS Graphics and MIK-BIS XLReport.

Basewear Fashion GmbH
Basewear GmbH, a Hamburg-based textile wholesale organization with approx. 50 employees, decided in favor of using MIK-OLAP, our multi-dimensional database for complex queries, as well as the related Excel front ends. The objective of the project is the centralization of data, quicker modification of calculations and development of offering scenarios, as well as greater transparency with respect to historical developments. For the most part, the solution will be used to calculate batches and observe liquidity / credits primarily with international business. Expansion to include a web portal is already planned.

Consolidation with Added-Value

CAPR Enables Companies to Drive Their Performance Successfully
With CAPR (Consolidation, Analysis, Planning, Reporting), MIK now offers a flexible, comprehensive consolidation system for single and multi-level consolidated accounts. This solution was developed together with the company’s partner, IDL GmbH, primarily to meet the demands of financial market oriented companies who must generate their consolidated accounts in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) starting with their 2005 business year.

The CAPR solution allows for statements to be generated in accordance with the various accounting regulations (HGB/IFRS/US-GAAP). Simulations of balance sheets, drill-down analysis and breakdown possibilities for all reporting lines by account, company, controlling object, division and sub-group are possible at any time. CAPR also merges all of the company data from various areas of the business, such as manufacturing, sales, financial accounting and human relations, inside one OLAP platform and, thus, enables links and comparisons. This now means that important company indicators can be presented in a quick and comfortable manner.

This solution also enables business management related analysis and multi-dimensional evaluation of the necessary information for driving business. For this reason, the business management functionalities were executed through a graphical user interface.

In addition, comprehensive simulation and planning options are offered, whereby the uncomplicated use of Excel simplifies and speeds up the internal planning processes. Data on the past is taken under consideration, as are seasonal factors, cost-element-percentage methods and top-down attribution of keys. Subsidiaries and branch offices can easily be integrated into the planning process through the Internet.

In the area of report creation, CAPR offers detailed presentations with powerful OLAP functionalities, rather than only conventional standard reports. Access to the reports also takes place via the Internet. By integrating them into MIK-BIS, you can continue to use your existing data sources and tools.
